Every once in a while I'm going to post about something Chris and I like to call "Things we've lost because of litigation."
Today the item I would like to highlight is the home pool diving board. These are a rare thing indeed because, well, it's possible to get hurt on them. People would try something stupid and low and behold, a broken nose. Then the insurance claim and maybe a lawsuit would follow the possibilities are endless! Of course these accidents were fairly rare but where does that leave us? With less summer fun and more diving off the side of the pool which has the ability to be even more dangerous!
Ahhh, the things we have lost because of litigation.

"Things we lost because of litigation." lol! It's so true! I kinda want to live in a world where there is risk and skill development.. and agility. (c:
One of my most missed things is the metal merry-go-round. You remember the wild times we had on the one at Broadway Park? And of course someone would fall off and under the thing. It was pretty dangerous. And guess what? There is one here at a park in Grapevine, TX! We were so excited to discover it! We pushed our kids like crazy, all the while exhorting them to hang on tight. I like living in Texas because while there is still litigation issues, there are also things like full immunity if you shoot a trespasser on your property (not that I plan to...)
We are getting more and more mamby pamby as a country. Everyone is afraid and many don't like to take responsibility for themselves. Sad.
I loved those dangerous merry go rounds too! It taught kids that it's important to follow rules or you could get hurt!
I love it!!! I had great times when I was a child at my neighbors pool that had a diving board.
We have plenty of teeter totters and real merry-go-rounds here. It's nice to see! I was looking at a Richard Scary book with Amelia yesterday, and they were naming all kinds of old school playground equipment. I had forgotten all about jungle gyms!
I'm keeping our kickin' diving board when I redo our pool - dadgumit!!!
Litigation has brought good things as well, the best of which by far is the Larry Parker commercial.
"Larry Parker got me 1.3 million dollars."
David, we quoted that phrase a lot growing up. We all thought it was pretty darn funny!
Ooops that was me Gretchen that just commented from my mom's computer!
I was gonna say... your mother quoted it a lot growing up? LOL. I was in high school (82 or 83) when I first saw it.
For the record the insurance companies I represent allow diving boards. There was a time they avoided insuring homes that had the evil diving board but I think that is a thing of the past. The Larry Parker commercial used the actual voice of the unfortunate new millionaire. "Larry Parker got me 1.2 million dolla!" Now that person can afford to go back to school and learn to enunciate each syllable of each word correctly :-). Elect Obama and watch the trial lawyers find many new victims to represent.
